A.T. LOFTS AT STARVING ROOSTER \ 2015 AIA ND Merit Award
The A.T. Lofts and Starving Rooster have become a driving force behind a revitalized downtown Minot. Located in an old farm machinery warehouse, the Starving Rooster gets its name from the original building’s moniker and logo. The Aultman Taylor Company, the original owner, made the claim that their threshing machines were so effective that they didn’t leave a spec of grain behind for the roosters to eat, leaving them hungry. Taking all of its cues from the original use of the building and “The Starving Rooster Story”, the architectural response is a great example of making the most of what is available (reusing the materials of the original building), at the same time, taking pride in the heritage and history of the building and region. Characterized by a historically appropriate industrial aesthetic, the original loading dock has become a favorite regional dining destination, with many stories offered by the local farmers and the days of picking up their parts at its doors.
