Potato Shed

POTATO SHED

Potato Shed is a project of embedded family legacy, respect for its natural setting, a desire for the building to be ‘of the place’ through scale and materiality, a commitment to sustainability, and an unrelenting commitment to the highest level of craftsmanship. Tucked into the hill is a respectful and scale appropriate response to the client’s desire for privacy and connection to nature, allowing the roadside to provide screening and a ‘peek’ at the lake, while the lakeside provides a more open celebration of the trees and elevated views of the lake. Articulated by the ‘three sheds,’ the shifted forms help force the ‘long views,’ client gathering spaces, guest suites and garage into their respective zones. Related to this, the glass entry cube creates the break between the forms and reorientates the visitor by opening up their views of the lake and allowing for a ‘breath’ of separation between buildings via the ‘space between.’ Once in the ‘sheds,’ you are gifted with a sense of ‘new and old’ through the use of recycled timbers, as well as a direct connection to the outdoors using large format glass, natural materials and a quiet interior palette, allowing the trees and lake to surround the interiors. Potato shed is all-at-once cozy, spacious and built for future generations through timeless planning, design and thoughtfulness.
