LAKE SEVEN RETREAT \ 2024 AIA ND Honor Award

Lake Seven Retreat is a project of simple restraint and truly understanding what can be ‘enough.’ In contrast to larger projects that would have tried to wipe away natural features and dominate the site, this project tucked itself into a small hill (the only buildable soil conditions) and comfortably allows a small family to enjoy the lake, the wooded lot, and the unbuildable onsite wetlands. This project fits a large program into a 1760sf package that respects the client’s needs, their budget and their overall love of thoughtful and intentional design. At the same time, the project celebrates ‘Hygge’ and the magic of Minnesota lake life through ‘bug-free’ porches, campfires, saunas, water and natural beauty.
