Beer & Fish Co. is the intersection of Fargo’s newest alley environment, representing “the corner” of one of Fargo’s best urban designs in decades and downtown Fargo’s first completely pedestrian friendly alley. Once limited to only delivery vehicles and crime, this alley space is now a destination and highlight to a fast-growing urban environment that allows for community gatherings, street fairs, farmer’s markets and live music. The design team was brought in early to make sure that glazing, circulation, window patterning, and operability were all designed to engage the alley and provide a unique open-air experience. The end result is a “lantern” in the heart of a once dark alley. Large interior volumes, exposed structure and large openings lend a great view of downtown’s existing historical fabric as well as provide a colorful, fun environment to enjoy fresh seafood from the area as well as from far away. Expanding on a restaurant family’s long-standing tradition of developing beloved Fargo concepts that give you a local flavor, including their mom’s famous battered Walleye recipe, this newest concept is all about celebrating Fargo’s newly formed urban destination, the culture of Minnesota fishing and cuisine, and its people.
