Sky Barn

SKY BARN \ 2013 AIA ND Merit Award

Located on what was once a parking lot for the Fargo Theater, the “Sky Barn” is one of Fargo’s most recent downtown developments and is a part of the city’s renewed effort geared toward bringing new life into one of the state’s oldest and most historical neighborhoods. All the while, reestablishing Fargo’s urban core as the most desirable place to live, work and play.

The “Sky Barn” is a direct response to the North Dakota vernacular. The project was aimed to evoke a familiar rural sense of place within an urban setting by incorporating locally harvested and reclaimed materials from the owner’s original family farmstead and surrounding region. Feature items like the “outhouse”, the “granary” and the rooftop “shed” all tell a familiar story that speaks volumes about the richness and heritage of the owner and region.
