For a family of three generations, this place has come to represent the “Land of 10,000 Lake Memories.” Nestled into one of West Battle’s prime beach fronts, this is a symbol of living outside. With folding walls and multiple options for engaging the building through circulation and outdoor space, the project allows a fluid attitude to spending their days next to the water. Playing off the classic Minnesota cabin with its central handmade stone fireplace collected from the area and its simplistic “shed” form, the Battle Lake Family Retreat offers a balance between feeling protection from the elements and a sense of airiness shared with the most basic camping experience.
